History & Heritage

One of the oldest incense materials in the world, sandalwood has been in use for at least 4,000 years. The sandalwood tree grows almost exclusively in the forests of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, India. Requiring 60 to 80 years to reach full maturity, its precious oil develops slowly in the roots and heartwood. The tree is never felled — it is uprooted in the rainy season when the roots are richest in oil. Tunisian processing gives this variety its distinctive bright, citrus-kissed character.
