Oud (also called Oudh, Aloeswood, Agarwood, or Gaharu) forms in the heartwood of ancient Aquilaria trees native to the dense forests of Southeast Asia. When infected with a specific fungus, the tree produces a dark, tar-like resin as a defense — and this resin is oud.
